The government announced in the following days that a $20m prize for humanitarian causes will be awarded to provide humanitarian relief to Ghana. The prize is awarded for a number of reasons for this purpose including: (a) humanitarian efforts such as disaster relief, which the government sees as essential to protecting civilians, (b) for-profit charitable enterprises, and (c) local and global organisations which assist victims, through the provision of educational materials, services or other aid.

The first US$2,500,000 prize is awarded on 1 October 2016.

The first prize includes all proceeds from the 2014-2015 US$1,734,744,000 prize for disaster relief. All prize funds will go towards ensuring that the UN, working with international partners, helps to stabilise and rebuild the affected areas. The second prize, awarded on 1 March 2016, will include all funds available to assist in the ongoing rebuilding of the communities affected by the disaster.

$2,500,000 is expected to be announced in September of 2018.

$4,000 is the amount of money raised for an international cause. This award is available to all nations and individuals worldwide.
